For those of you that don’t know, I work (on the side) for a close friend, R&B singer TQ and his label HUB Music. On Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 his latest album will drop entitled “Kind Of Blue”. I strongly urge you to go buy it at your local Best Buy, Target or online. (I’ll even try to add a link here for you to purchase it if you’d like.)

TQ is an artist that has written songs (and music) for some of the biggest and best acts in the music business, but is an even better person. He is my youngest son’s god father and a close friend of mine and my family. His music touches on the reality of what is going on in society today. An eclectic man blessed with a great voice and keen business sense, TQ harmonizes a soulful sound mixed with the reality of street life. He sound is global as he is well known around the world and extremely popular in Europe.

Singer/songwriter/producer TQ hit the music scene in 1998 with a style that made him different than any other R&B singer on the market. They called his style “Reality R&B” and that style has been repeatedly imitated since then.

A native of Compton, California, his swagger and delivery made some fans regard him with the same appeal as a rapper. In fact, in most music stores TQ’s albums can probably be found in the rap section.

Realistic lyrics in songs that deal with real life issues is what TQ says makes for this confusion. “It’s just not your average R&B”, TQ says. Now with a solid 15 years in the business to his credit, TQ will debut his new album Kind of Blue in January 2010 around the world. While most R&B artists sing about mainly about love, TQ set himself apart with cutting edge songwriting, branding his own type of “Reality R&B”.

He started his professional music career in ’93 with a young B-Boy group Coming of Age. His own 1998 debut solo album “They Never Saw Me Coming”, which included the hits “Westside” and “Bye Bye Baby”,made him an instant worldwide success.

The single “Westside” debuted in the Top Ten in many countries, and in some countries at 1 the first week. The song stayed on top of the charts for weeks, collectively selling in excess of 1.5 million singles worldwide. TQ had fans from all over the world “throwing their dubs in the air” with the four-fingered Westside symbol, including many fans who didn’t speak a lick of English. TQ then followed up with a second album

The Second Coming with the classic hit “Daily”, which was exclusively distributed in Europe. For his third album, TQ returned to the U.S. market with “Listen…”, which offered a perfect rendition of Prince’s hit ballad “Adore.” Many fans and critics stated it was one of the best Prince cover tunes that had ever heard. The album also included production Mannie Fresh, formerly of Cash Money Records.

While he has had both major label and independent success, TQ stayed the independent route in a partnership with EMI Records America for his last album “Paradise” and his brand new soon to be released Album “Kind of Blue”.

“The New Album is crazy! I’m really flying on this one. The older I get, the less I give a f*ck about the norm. Music is completely fun right now and there doesn’t seem to be any pressure. I’m just writing about my life and all it’s experiences. There will be something on this album to satisfy a lot of different kinds of listeners… It reminds me of when I first started…”

TQ states that the freedom to create is equally as important as being able to control his business. “I guess for me the biggest thing now is ownership of the biggest slice of pie”, explains TQ. “Due to the state of the music business, in order to be successful I have to make the highest dollar amount per unit. In order to do that you have to cut out a lot of the middle men. Being Independent allows me to get straight to the consumer, and that’s exactly where I want to be.”

After having such a phenomenal success with his first single “Westside”, it appeared that some of TQ’s songwriting talents got lost in the shuffle of his promotion. He is now in a position to let the world experience his full discography, which is still growing by the day.

Throughout his career, TQ’s die-hard fans from all walks of life respected his true talent. “After Westside was an established hit, the damnest person would come up to me in the streets and give me props on my pen”, recalls TQ. “Like some guy wearing a suit in the elevator, or some old lady that you’d never expect. I think the most satisfying part of my work comes from the fans who write me and quote some of my lyrics in past songs. Now that’s hot!”

TQ has written, produced and collaborated with some of the top artists in the music industry from all genres including N-Sync, Lil Wayne, R.Kelly, Whitney Houston, Dru Hill, Jagged Edge, Ron Isley, Swizz Beatz, Petey Pablo, Another Level, LFO, Donny Osmond, Juvenile, Krazyie Bone, Layzie Bone, E40, Too Short, The Outlawz, Sarah Conner, The Game, Jim Jones, Jagged Edge and countless others. A man of many talents, TQ also branched off into an acting career. TQ landed four film roles in a short time, and plays the main character in two of them. Richard III, a Shakespeare film; The Devil’s Grind, a hardcore urban film; and Rockin Meera, an internationally action-packed love story, are all due to release sometime in the near future.

TQ’s latest project will be a gritty, urban Romeo and Juliet modern day drama entitled “One Love” which is in pre-production at the moment. TQís mission is do more albums, more films, modeling, commercial endorsements and a heavy dose of touring.

Arrigo’s Mock v.15.0

ROUND 1: Packers trade pick #23 to Dallas for the Cowboys 1st (#27) and 3rd round selection. The Packers then trade down with the Cleveland Browns. Packers sen pick #27 (round 1) for pick 38 (2nd round) and a pick in round 3 that the Browns own (pick 92 via the Jets).

ROUND 2 (PICK 38):Charles Brown-OT-USC: Brown is athletic and a perfect fit for a zone blocking scheme. He isn’t overly strong and will need to improve his run blocking, put he has a high ceiling. He would benefit from a year of being a back-up and learning the Packers offensive system. He could go late in round 1, but I hear he is more likely an early 2nd round guy.

ROUND 4 (PICK 119) : Mike Johnson, G, Alabama: The Packers have Jason Spitz and Darryn Colledge at left guard, but neither set the world on fire (for a variety of reasons) in 2009. Johnson would be a very good fit for the Packers.

ROUND 5 (PICK ???) Jevan Snead-QB-Ole Miss: Snead was considered a lock for the first round going into his senior season, but he played poorly and his stock slipped. He surprised everyone by coming out early. He has a big time arm and ability but needs to be coached up.

ROUND 5 (comp pick): Zoltan Mesko-P-Michigan: The Packers have a need at Punter and Mesko will solve that. He can kick in the elements and has a very strong leg.

ROUND 6 (PICK ???) Walter Thurmond-CB-Oregon: A nasty knee injury ruined his 2009 season. Until then Thurmond was a high draft pick. I would select him and either PUP or IR him.

ROUND 7 (PICK ???) : Trindon Holliday-KR/WR-LSU: The 5’5 speed demon would be another return specialist. He is lightning in a  bottle and a player that could team with McCluster to form a lethal return duo.

Word is spreading that the Packers have an interest in Ravens defensive end Dwan Edwards. He fit’s Ted Thompson’s type of player, underrated, hard working and tenacious. He would also come at a reasonable price.

Other than the Edwards rumor, all is quite inside 1265. Although I did hear the Packers may be a “mystery team” when it comes to Ryan Clark. But, I also heard his asking price is more than what Thompson wants to pay.

With Chad Clifton re-singed and Mark Taucsher very likely to also be re-signed, I hear the Packers will work on taking care of Nick Collins.

I heard a rumor that Clifton never wanted to leave Green Bay and that even when the Redskins made him an offer, he told his agent that his heart is in Green Bay and he doesn’t want to play any where else. The deal Clifton signed may be 3 years in length, but I also heard it is more like a 1 year deal (unless he stays healthy).

When Donovan Warren ran a slow 40 time at the combine last week, many thought his stock may slip or the Packers would be “turned off”, but the latter isn’t the case. The Packers really are more intrigued with his 3 cone drill technique and view Warren as a safety and not a corner back.

I also heard the Packers requested “everything” on Perrish Cox, Tommy Hughes and Jason Fox.

Two offensive tackles that the Packers are looking hard at are Ciron Black (LSU) and Rodger Saffold (Indiana). Some think that the Packers would use Saffold as a left guard and Black as a right tackle, moving T.J. Lang to the left side in a year or two.

I heard from a source that he thinks 11-13 corner backs will be taken in the first three rounds of the draft.

I also heard the Packers spoke to Ricky Sapp, Jason Fox, Major Wright, Colin Peek, Kevin Thomas, Chad Jones, Jamar Chaney and Kam Chancellor at the combine.

I heard that Steelers safety Ryan Clark is near the top of the Packers short list when it comes to free agency. He is a safety that has experience in the 3-4 scheme and a very underrated player. Henis also a perfect fit for the defense. Ted Thompson, as we all know, won’t over pay for a player, but at the right price Clark could be in play.

I was also told to “expect a normal free agency mode” by Ted Thompson. Which will make Packers fans upset, sicne he doens’t like to “set the bar” when it comes to free agents.

Because of the Rams low tender on him, keep an eye on safety Oshiomogho Atogwe. The Rams tendered him the lowest tender making him a restricted free agent who is limited only by a right of first refusal is not entitled to a one-year salary that equates to 110 percent of his 2009 pay.

The Packers talked to the Raiders briefly at the combine about a couple possible trade scenarios. Names that were discussed were Darren McFadden, Kirk Morrison, Thomas Howard and Nnamdi Asomugha. The asking price for Asomugha was pretty high I was told and talks didn’t get to far.

 I was told that the Packers will not get involved in the Julius Peppers sweepstakes. His asking price is to high and the Packers will not meet his price ”requirements”.

Antonio Cromartie is available. The Packers have a “need” at conerback and it would seem that there would be a match there, right? Well I was told that his “off the filed activities” and work ethic have turned the Packers off. I’m not saying that a deal won’t happen, but it is unlikely.

With Antrel Rolle wanting a salary making more than $8 million a year, which is more than Ed Reed, don’t look for the Packers to get to involved, I was told.

The Packers are working hard to re-sign Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher before free agency starts. They don’t want to lose either, and the two fixtures at each tackle spot for the Packers may be the best two tackles on the free agent market.

At the combine, the Packers and Nick Collins (agent) made some progress and think that a deal could be reached before training camp.

Keep this in mind when you read the list of players the Packers spoke with at the combine, they rarely speak to their first round targets at the combine. The normally target rounds 3-7 prospects there and speak to the first round targets at their pro days.

I heard that the Packers have spoke to the following players @ the combine:
Perrish Cox (CB/KR Oklahoma St.), Larry Asante (S, Nebraska), Dexter McCluster (RB/WR/KR Ole Miss),  Bruce Campbell (OT, Maryland), O’Brien Schofield (OLB, Wisconsin), Golden Tate (RB, Notre Dame), Trindon Holliday (WR/KR, LSU), Matt Dodge (P, East Carolina), Ciron Black (OT, LSU), Zoltan Mesko (P, Michigan), Jared Veldheer (OT, Hillsdale), Nate Allen (S, Ohio St.), Tim Hiller (QB, W. Michigan), Danovan Warren (CB, Michigan), Mike Tepper (OT, Cal).

I heard Darren Colledge is hot. He is upset on two fronts. One because the Packers didn’t try to resign him to a long term deal during the season or off-season. Secondly becasue he was only tendered at a second rounder. He wants out of Green Bay.

As I have stated in the past, I try not to speculate on who the Packers keep, trade, sign or cut/release. But this time I will. I am writing this with no “inside knowledge” or based off anything that I have heard through any of my sources. This is a mock based off my opinion and the current CBA situation (which looks as if there will not be a new deal by the March 5th deadline) . I also feel that the Packers will receive a 5th round comp pick for Colin Cole.

This mock I will not add any free agents. It’s a straight mock with draft day trades.

I think the Packers resign/tender: Nick Collins, Ryan Pickett, Tramon Williams,  Jason Spitz, Chad Clifton, Mark Tausher, Desmond Bishop, Derrick Martin, Will Blackmon, Anthony Toribio, Daryn Colledge, Donald Lee, Atari Bigby, Jeremy Kapinos and Johnny Jolly.

I don’t think the Packers resign and/or release: Aaron Kampman,  Patrick Williams, Jarrett Bush, Josh Bell, Trevor Ford, Matt Giordano,  Brady Poppinga, Deshawn Wynn, Devin Frischknecht and Mike Montgomery.

Round 1 (#23)- Pick traded to Dallas for their 2010 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks. (Dallas selects Mike Iupati)

Round 2 ( A )- Jerry Hughes- OLB- TCU: Hughes is the pass rush specialist that would be the perfect complement to Clay Matthews III. The former running back has the size, speed and quickness to be a force in the Packers 3-4 defense. The pass rush should not be a problem for the Packers in 2010 and beyond.

Round 2 ( B )- Dexter McCluster- RB/WR/KR- Ole Miss: McCluster is a doing every thing football player that is tough, smart and instinctive. He fills multiple “needs” for the Packers including a 3rd running back, a 5th wide receiver and a kick returner. He can also line up as a QB in a “Wild Pack” formation. I have heard the Packers have met with him a few times in Mobile and have a big time interest in him. This kids’ personality is out of this world.

Round 2 ( C )- Perrish Cox- CB/KR/ Oklahoma St.:  Cox is one of the best, if not the best  playmaker at the cornerback position in this draft. He plays with flair and confidence. There are whispers that he is cocky, but he would be the dime back (until Al Harris is ready) and main return specialist for the Packers. He has star potential.  

Round 3 ( A )-Vladimir Dycasse- OT- Massachusetts: Ducasse is a big, strong, raw player that some scouts feel has first or second round ability, but doesn’t always show it. The Packers land him in hope that he protects Aaron Rodgers blind-side for many years to come.

Round 3 ( B )- Morgan Burrnett- SS- Georgia Tech:  Burnett is a player that I feel could be a starter down the road, if not year 1. He has nice tools and fits the mold of what Capers look for in his strong safety. Good size & speed and makes plays. Not afraid to stick his nose in and hit someone either. 

Round 3 ( C )- Jared Veldheer- OT- Hillsdale: Mike McCarthy announced that T.J. Lang will move to right tackel, but some feel  he is better suited for left gaurd, so Veldheer has the chance to be the Packers right tackle of the future.

Round 4- Andrew Quarless- TE- Penn St.:  The Packers have a need for a very good blocking tight end, and Quarless is that with decent hands. He will push Donald Lee for playing time and could develop into a very good number two behind Jermichael Finley.

Round 5 ( A )- O’Brien Schofiled- OLB- Wisconsin: Tore his ACL at the Senior Bowl after a steller Shrine week. He is a really good pass rusher and could get better dropping into pass coverage. Great motor and a great kid overall. Met with Winston Moss at the combine and the two seemed to hit it off.

Round 5 ( B )- Akwasi Owusu-Ansah- CB/FS- Indiana (PA): A playmaker that has it all and is an outstanding return man. He is a ball hawk that may rise up draft boards after the combine but is coming off an injury. He has great size and speed and would be a welcome addition the Packers secondary. I see him as a 5th CB, back up free safety and a returnman.

Round 6- Zoltan Mesko- P- Michigan: The Packers have a “need” for a punter and even though Kapinos has been tendered, they will upgrade the punting position. Mesko knows how to kick in the elements and that is something the Packers like. He would be a major upgrade over Kapinos.

Round 7- Zac Robinson- QB- Oklahoma St.: Robinson is a raw prospects with some nice tools. He ran a “spread offense” at OSU but flashed enough to have the Packers liking him a lot. He would benefit by learning under Mike McCarthy and Tom Clements.

1. Rams: Gerald McCoy-DT-Oklahoma: McCoy fills a need for the Rams and would wreak havoc in opposing teams backfield for years. He fits the Rams scheme.

2. Lions: Ndamukong Suh-DT- Nebraska: Unless the Lions trade down for a chance to draft a LT,  Suh has to be the pick. He is a beast and will anchor the Lions defensive line for years.

3. Buccaneers:  Eric Berry-S-Tennessee: The perfect fit for the “Tampa 2″ and the best playmaker in the draft.  He is built in the “Ed Reed” mold and is the ideal safety for the “Tampa 2″ defense.

4. Redskins: Russell Okung-OT-Oklahoma St.: The Redskins need a LT to protect their QB, who ever that is, Okung is that guy. He is a big, strong guy that plays with a nasty streak.

5. Chiefs: Brian Buluga-OT-Iowa: With Okung gone, Buluga is the next best.  He is well coached and a tough guy that will help protect Matt Cassel.

6. Seahawks: Jimmy Clausen-QB-Notre Dame: Pete Carroll knows Clausen well and the Seahawks need a QB for the future. Clausen played in a pro-style offense at Notre Dame and should be a good fit for Seattle.

7. Browns: Joe Haden-CB-Florida: The Browns need a lot, but Hayden would be a great building block for any defense. Mike Holmgren needs to address the quarterback position, but will not by 3 quarterbacks  big bucks. He ran “slow” at the combine, but the film doesn’t lie, Haden can flat-out play.

8. Raiders: Bruce Campbell-OT-Maryland: The Raiders need an offensive tackle and Campbell may be the most gifted in the draft. With Hue Jackson as the new offensive coordinator look for him to make sure JaMarcus Russell stays upright and McFadden has hole to run through.

9. Bills- Sam Bradford-QB-Oklahoma: The Bills finally get their QB of the future.

10. Jaguars: Rolando McClain-LB-Alabama: Quarterback is a bigger need, but McClain would be the perfect LB for Del Rio’s defense. Clausen or Bradford has to be considered here (if he is available) and it’s to early for Tim Tebow.

11. Broncos (via Chicago): Dez Bryant-WR-Oklahoma St.: Will Brandon Marshall be in Denver? Bryant will be the man in McDaniel’s offense. If the Broncos keep Brandon Marshall they will have on hell of a duo.

12. Dolphins: Jason Pierre-Paul-DE-South Florida: The Dolphins defense isn’t bad, but Pierre-Paul would add that speed rusher Jason Taylor used to be. He may be the first defensive lineman off the board.

13. 49ers: Trent Williams- OT- Oklahoma: Williams would be the 49ers RT of the present and future. If Alex Smith is the starter there, they need to protect him.

14. Seahawks: Charles Brown-OT-USC: Brown is the perfect LT in a zone blocking scheme, and the Seahawks have hired Alex Gibbs as their offensive line coach.

15. Giants: Earl Thomas-S-Texas: Kenny Phillips went down and so did the Giants. Thomas is a playmaking S that the G-Men need. He is another playmaking safety that is not afraid to hit.

16. Titans: Derrick Morgan-DE-Georgia Tech: Morgan can get to the QB, and Tennessee needs to do more of that from their DE’s.

17. 49ers (via Carolina): CJ Spiller-RB-Clemson: Spiller is to good  to pass up. He cures the 49ers return needs and will be Frank Gore’s primary back-up and match-up problem for NFC West teams.

18. Steelers: Dan Williams-DT-Tennessee: Casey Hampton is franchised, but Williams could play DE until Hampton hangs them up. This kid is a beast.

19. Falcons: Sergio Kindle-OLB-Texas: I love this kid. He can do it all, but he is a great pass rusher and the Falcons will welcome his ability.

20. Texans: Anthony Davis-OT-Rutgers: The Texans need to keep their Pro-Bowl MVP up to complete passes to Andre Davis. Anthony Davis can be that guy. 

21. Bengals: Arrelious Benn-WR-Illinois: With the loss of Chris Henry, Chad Ocho Cinco & Carson Palmer get some offensive help with Benn.  He can go over the middle or go deep on any play, a really nice fit in the “natti”.

22. Patriots: Ricky Sapp-OLB-Clemson: Ideal fit in the 3/4 as a rush backer and the Patriots need that. Their defense is young, but they are talented.

23. Packers: Taylor Mays-S-USC:  At this point there isn’t an OL that is worth a 1st round grade so Mays is the pick. Mays has his flaws, but Dom Capers will put him in a position to succeed.  Mays is an enforcer that would bring a toughness to there secondary and a force in the middle of the field.

24. Eagles: Sean Weatherspoon-OLB- Mizzou: The Eagles need to get more athletic at OLB and Weatherspoon is just that. He is a playmaking machine with a great motor and an expert trash talker.

25. Ravens: Jermaine Gresham-TE-Oklahoma: Joe Flacco needs another target in the red zone and Todd Heap has his heir apparent. Nobody is noticing that the Ravens are becoming a pretty good offensive team.

26. Kyle Wilson-CB-Boise St.: ANother great young corner to play along side “DRC” and gives the Cardinals a really good young secondary.

27. Cowboys: Mike Iupati-OG-Idaho: Iupati fills the Cowboys biggest need and Dallas adds another massive offensive lineman to their line.

28. Chargers: Jonathan Dwyer-RB-Georgia Tech: Chan Gailey coached him at GT and also worked with Norv Turner in Dallas. Dwyer is a big, physical RB that is sneaky fast with decent hands.

29. Jets: Brian Price-DT-UCLA: He fills a need and would be a nice fit in Ryan’s defense. Could be a back-up to Kris Jenkins and also play some end.

30. Vikings: Patrick Robinson-CB-Florida St.: The Vikings lost Cedric Griffin with an ACL sprain and made an already thin secondary even thinner.

31. Colts: Maurkice Pouncey-C/G-Florida: The Colts offensive line is being watched closely by Bill Polian after a lackluster 2009 season. Pouncey fills a “need”.

32. Saints: Jared Odrick-DE/DT-Penn State: The Saints get even deeper by adding the versatile Odrick.

As I have stated in the past, I try not to speculate on who the Packers keep, trade, sign or cut/release. But this time I will. I am writing this with no “inside knowledge” or based off anything that I have heard through any of my sources. This is a mock based off my opinion and the current CBA situation (which looks as if there will not be a new deal by the March 5th deadline) . I also feel that the Packers will receive a 6th round comp pick for Colin Cole.

I think the Packers resign/tender: Nick Collins, Ryan Pickett, Tramon Williams, Aaron Kampman, Jason Spitz, Chad Clifton, Mark Tausher, Desmond Bishop, Derrick Martin, Will Blackmon, Anthony Toribio, Daryn Colledge and Johnny Jolly.

I don’t think the Packers resign and/or release: Donald Lee,  Jeremy Kapinos, Patrick Williams, Jarrett Bush, Josh Bell, Trevor Ford, Matt Giordano,  Brady Poppinga, Atari Bigby, Deshawn Wynn, Devin Frischknecht and Mike Montgomery.

Free Agent Signings:

Dunta Robinson-CB: Word is that Robinson doesn’t like the cold, but he knows Capers and his system (since Capers was his 1st head coach in Houston). Robinson is a player that would start opposite of Charles Woodson and allow Tramon Williams back into his nickle role, in which he thrives.

Antrel Rolle-SS: The Packers have a huge need at safety because Atari Bigby is often injured and a liability in coverage. Rolle is a safety with decent coverage skills and a playmaker to team with Nick Collins. He is a perfect fit for the Packers defense.

Mock Draft v13.0

Round 1: Bruce Campbell- OT- Maryland: Campbell has the skill set to be the best offensive tackle in this draft, but many think he came out a year to early. He would be a perfect player to replace Chad Clifton after he retires or gets injured. Campbell fills a huge “need” for the Packers.

Round 2: Perrish Cox- CB/KR- Oklahoma St.: Cox is one of the best, if not the best  playmaker at the cornerback position in this draft. He plays with flair and confidence. There are whispers that he is cocky, but he would be the dime back (until Al Harris is ready) and main return specialist for the Packers. He has star potential.

Round 3: Dexter McCluster-RB/WR/KR- Ole Miss: McCluster is a doing every thing football player that is tough, smart and instinctive. He fills multiple “needs” for the Packers including a 3rd running back, a 5th wide receiver and a kick returner. He can also line up as a QB in a “Wild Pack” formation. I have heard the Packers have met with him a few times in Mobile and have a big time interest in him. This kids’ personality is out of this world.

Round 4: Morgan Burnett- S- Georgia Tech: I know, still no linebacker, but Burnett is a player that I feel could be a starter down the road and to good to pass up. He has nice tools and could start down the road but for the time being, he would be an excellent special teams player.

Round 5: Cameron Sheffield- OLB- Troy: Sheffield projects as a perfect 3-4 rush linebacker. He still needs to work on some things, but he has a great first step and just makes plays. He could be another starter in a couple years.

Round 6 ( A ): Akwasi Owusu-Ansah- CB/FS- Indiana (PA): A playmaker that has it all and is an outstanding return man. He is a ball hawk that may rise up draft boards after the combine but is coming off an injury. He has great size and speed and would be a welcome addition the Packers secondary. I see him as a 5th CB, back up free safety and a returnman.

Round 6 ( B ):  Nathan Overbay- TE- Eastern Washington: A kid who’s game is well-rounded and could be a find late in the draft. He would be the 3rd tight end on the Packers, but a player that could develop into a decent number 2 down the road.

Round 7: Zac Robinson- QB- Oklahoma St.: Robinson is a raw prospects with some nice tools. He ran a “spread offense” at OSU but flashed enough to have the Packers liking him a lot. He would benefit by learning under Mike McCarthy and Tom Clements.

I don’t recall if I had this in the past O.T.S. but I have heard (for a while now) that Ted Thompson would like to add a veteran corner back and/or offensive tackle via trade or free agency.
I touched on this in various Packers websites/forums this week. ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reported that the Oakland Raiders are willing to deal any player on their roster, including the NFL’s best corner back, Nnamdi Asomugha. The word started to come out at the Shrine practices, but intensified after the Senior Bowl.

I have heard that the Packers have talked to Oakland multiple times about Nnamdi Asomugha, Darren McFadden and Thomas Howard. There is no word on the price tag, but we can only assume that for Asomugha it is going to be steep. This may be Ted Thompson doing his due diligence, but the two teams also spoke last year when Oakland was willing to listen to offers.

Keep an eye on Texans soon-to-be free agent Daunte Robinson. The corner out of South Carolina has ties to Dom Capers and would be a very good fit in the Packers defensive scheme. 

For two years the name Julius Peppers has had Packers fans hoping that he could find his way to Green Bay. I hear those fans wanting him can keep wishing. The thought is Thompson will “check-in” on Peppers, but will not over spend for him. The Packers remain a dark horse for Peppers, but only at the right price.

When the Eagles released Brian Westbrook the Vikings became the most likely suitor since they will lose Chester Taylor this off-season. But I have heard that the Packers, Redskins, Vikings and Patriots have all had contact with his agent about possibly signing him (after his official release).

The Packers are continuing to work on an extension for Ryan Pickett, but since a deal is not close to  being done,m they will franchise him. He is cool with it since the two parties both want Pickett to stay in Green Bay. Part of the reasoning to franchise Pickett is because the NFL is planning suspend Johnny Jolly. I hear the suspension between 4-6 games. That would mean B.J. Raji will get a lot more snaps at defensive end. 

Speaking of Jolly, look for the Packers to tender him and ensure he remains with Green Bay for the forseeable future. They will have to do it before his trial takes place and even if (when) he is suspended in 2011.

A name that I hear is flying up the Packers draft board is Georgia Tech safety Morgan Burnett. He is an underrated player with big play ability and not afraid to make a big hit. 

Another name that is creating a buzz at 1265 is Antrel Rolle of the Arizona Cardinals. I heard that he is a player that some Packers officials think would solve the safety “issue” and also give the Packers the best safety combo in the NFC.

A restricted free agent that may not be retained or could be traded is Oakland’s Kalif Barnes. There is some speculation that he maybe a player that the Packers target to play right tackle.

 Ted Thompson still would like to keep Aaron Kampman from what I gathered. But the question is does Kampman want to stay in Green Bay. I hear he agent and the Packers are still talking, for what it’s worth.

One surprising name that has been linked to Green Bay is Oklahoma St. quarterback Zac Robinson. I have been hearing that the Packers are “smitten” with him and he could be a late round selection by the Packers.  He has a decent arm but his highly athletic and raw.

A player that has to have a good combine in order to lock down a first round selection is TCU outside linebacker and pass rush expert Jerry Hughes. He is a player that the packers are looking at late in round 1 or even early in round 2.

I have also heard that at the right price Ted Thompson would like to bring in Chargers running back Darren Sproles, who will be allowed to become a free agent.

Many people think that the Packers biggest “need” is in the secondary and I hear Ted Thompson wants to add a veteran corner or safety via the free agent route or trade.

I posted a few weeks back that the Packers had talked to the Chargers (or vice versa) about Antonio Cromartie. He is available (and has been for a while) and the Chargers asking price is not a steep as some may think.

Another name that I hear may be released and is a player the Packers are watching closely is Colts safety Bob Sanders. He has been hurt the past couple years and is making huge money. Bill Polian is deciding whether or not to move on from the talented yet injury prone safety.

Keep an eye on Kerry Rhodes from the Jets. The coaching staff is not as high on him as they were a year ago. I hear the Jets aren’t actively shopping him, but will listen to any teams that want to discuss him.

The Jets also don’t plan on keeping Lito Sheppard. They were disappointed with his play after they dealt for him last year. No word on if he will be cut or traded.

Antrelle Rolle is another player that could a match for the Packers. The Cardinals free agent is a playmaking Safety that also has the ability to cover the tight end. He has said that he wants to go back to Florida, but he would be an upgrade over Atari Bigby. (This scenario was also posted on totalpackers and is being discussed by myself, Jason Beebe, Jersey Al and others via inbox on facebook.)

I was told by a close friend that works for the Jaguars that the team is not happy with Reggie Nelson’s play and attitude and is considering releasing or trading him. The former first round pick’s play has not been what the Jag’s expected when they took him and he was briefly benched at the end of  last season by Jack Del Rio.  

He also told me that the Jags are also considering trading former Pro Bowl cornerback Rahshean Mathis. He is due over $9 million and has missed a lot of time due to injuries the past two seasons.

There has been talk that the Packers and Cowboys could get together for a draft day deal. The Packers would receive the Cowboys first round pick, 3rd round pick and linebacker Victor Butler for the Packers 1st round pick. I hear that the Cowboys want to add an offensive lineman or corner back.

I hear that the Packers have interest in Adalius Thomas, but he prefers to stay on the east coast.

Many people I have spoken to seem to think that the Packers are a team that is under the radar when it comes to Julius Peppers. Some think that Thompson is willing to spend the money (but not over spend) to bring him to Green Bay.

The Saints have a few questions when it comes to who they bring back and let go. I keep hearing that they are prepared to let former Pro Bowl left tackle Jammal Brown walk and that the Packers have a major interest in him. He is coming off a knee injury that had him on I.R.

Another name that keeps coming up when it comes to the Packers and possibly adding a tackle in free agency is Donald Penn of Tampa Bay.   

The Chargers front office (GM AJ Smith) has fallen out of favor with Marcus McNeil (like Anotnio Cromartie) and is willing to let him walk. McNeil thinks he can command a huge pay-day on the open market, but with his neck issues it may not be as prosperous as he thinks.

I heard that the Packers have “requested everything” on Boise ST. corner back Kyle Wilson, USC safety Taylor Mays, Clemson tailback C.J. Spiller, Maryland’s Bruce Campbell, Cal’s Jahvid Best, Dexter McCluster of Ole’ Miss and Rodger Staffold of Indiana.

Some people are starting to think that there will be 6 offensive tackles taken in the first 15 picks of the first round.

A few safety names that I hear the Packers are looking at hard (in the 2010 draft) are TJ Ward, Myron Lewis and Darrell Stuckey.

If the Packers do not draft a safety in round 1 look for either Chad Scott of LSU or Georgia Tech’s Morgan Burnett as possible round two targets.

The NFL has gone the “safe” route since the Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake “nipple gate” situation. By having artist such as Paul McCartney, Prince, The Who and other “classic rock & pop” acts, the NFL has made it a “who’s who” (no pun intended) of 70′s icons.

But the half time show has become stale and it is time for a change. I have the solution to the NFL’s problem.

Working as a Program Director for a CHR Top 40 station for 5 years, I have a unique perspective. I am an avid sports fan. Besides my family and god, it is the third most important thing in my life. But I am also a huge music fan and consider myself rather eclectic.

I am a self-described “hip-hop head”, but prefer the thought provoking and ”conscious” artists who touch on social issues to the “bling, bling” money, girls and clothes artists. But I respect those artists as well because they found their “nitch”.

I also am a huge R&B and Soul fan, not just todays artists, but also acts from the 60′s,70′s, 80′s and 90′s. Finally, I also like classic rock groups like Journey (Steve Perry has the most amazing voice), The Eagles, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, War, Carlos Santana and many others.

Why am I describing my personal tastes in this blog? So you can see what my twisted little mind has in store for the NFL and the idea I have for the Super Bowl halftime show. 

Today we don’t seem to have an appreciation for older groups and their music. In the radio business we are always looking for that new, fresh thing that will turn the radio world and society upside down and create a buzz.

A few years ago I went to my boss with an idea that I heard on some mixtapes. It combined new song lyrics played over classic rock & R&B beats. He thought it was a really good idea, but it would be difficult to get all the artists to clear it, so we decided to not try it (as part of a new music show we were planning). Today it is known as “mash-up’s” and they even have a video game (DJ Hero) that you can “mash-up” certain songs.

 So, my idea is to bring together artists of today with classic artists of yesterday, on stage performing together as one. It would allow both younger viewers and older viewers to both enjoy the show. 

I have a few ideas of artists that I think would be good fits together with their songs. Here they are in no particular order:

1. The Eagles and R&B artist TQ performing “Hotel California”. TQ is an artist that is multi-talented with a natural voice and actually did a very good version of “Hotel California” but the Eagles never cleared it.

2. Earth, Wind & Fire with R&B artist Usher performing ”September”. Usher is one hell of an entertainer and would be a natural fit with Earth, Wind and Fire.

3. Kool & The Gang with R&B artist Ne-Yo performing “Celebrate”. Ne-Yo is another multi-talented singer and song writer that has the right vocals to sing “Celebrate”.

4. Pat Benatar with pop artist Pink performing “Hit me With Your Best Shot”. This see,s like a natural fit. Both have that voice that is so distinctive and would be one hell of a performance.

5. Queen with “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert performing “We Are The Champions”. This, to me, is another perfect fit with Lambert’s theatrics blending with Queen.

6. Stevie Wonder and R&B artist Trey Songz performing ANY Stevie Wonder song. Trey Songz is another R&B singer that is “slept on” by many people, but is getting more popularity lately (and deservedly so).

7. Prince with R&B artist Ryan Leslie performing ANY Prince song. Prince had the best half time show in recent memory (to me at least). Leslie can’t sing as good a Prince, but he has that similar style. 

8. Bee Gee’s with R&B artist Robin Thicke

By tieing in the “old with the new” it bridges the gap between generations. The NFL was caught of guard by the Timberlake/Jackson situation, but they shouldn’t exclude newer acts because of it. Make sure that you have final say over all things about the performance. That would eliminate any issue or concern the NFL would have.

I didn’t include any Hip-Hop acts because I don’t feel that the older people attending or viewing would be as receptive to them as younger people. It is about dollars and cents with the NFL and I also don’t feel that “corporate America” would accept a Hip-Hop act. In time, maybe, but I don’t think some are ready for a Lil’ Wayne and AC/DC mash-up.

I hope that this blog some how finds it way to the NFL office and the people who are in charge of the halftime show. I think a little “freshen up” wouldn’t be a bad thing. The NFL wants to continue to improve their product in every aspect, this is one to improve the Super Bowl.
